Hello GORGEOUS! I cannot believe we are in month three of 2023! This year is going by fast. People usually start new year's resolutions/goals at the beginning of the year. But…who says we can’t start new goals or resolutions today or next month. In fact, I heard the argument that it may not be too natural to start new goals in January during the winter since we are hibernating. So for those of you who would like to incorporate some moving in your routine or you would like to do more exercises in sync with your cycle, here is a short summary and some tips!
Follicular Phase: This is the first two weeks of your menstrual cycle, including the bleeding time. We are all different, but when I started tracking my menstrual cycle and weight performance at the gym, I realized I was the strongest during this phase. Your energy is at its highest in the second week when your hormones are more balanced. This is the time you break PRs and focus on more intensive workouts. But this is also the time you are more prone to injuries, so do not skip that warm-up and stretching!
Luteal Phase: This is the last two weeks of your menstrual cycle. This is also the time your energy starts decreasing. The recommendation is pilates or yoga, but if you are a gym addict like muah! Well, I recommend being mindful of your body and your needs.
Here is an interesting article on working out and your menstrual cycle and here is interesting research about injuries during the second week of the follicular phase.
Period Tips By Phase
*note: not all periods or phases are equal. You might spend a longer or shorter number of days in each of the phases than other women, girls, trans and non binary people you know that menstruate.*
⚡️ Follicular (Day 1 - 13) → Time to Crush those Goals!
✮ This is the time when we feel the most energetic! It is a great time to start new challenges like trying a new workout class, starting new routines, or simply crush those personal weight liftying goals! We are cheering for you!
