Birth control.

Loading...

aaah yes, our good ole’ friend. The same one that pokes its head into our minds every day when we panic about abortion care every time we’re sitting on the toilet for a little post-coitus pee. Also…all the continuous attacks on abortion care.

I’ve been seeing a lot more content on social media about the influence of birth control on the body and one side effect really stood out to me: birth control influences your choice of partner. Your choice of partner? YOUR CHOICE OF PARTNER! So I looked up the science to see if it was true.

Here is what the research suggests, and we invite you to check the research linked at the end of this section: women who use hormonal birth control prefer less masculine features in the partners they choose similar to women who are in their “non-fertile” phase of their cycle. This finding has been shown over and over in the past decade.

Isn’t that wild? The reason is because HBC prevents ovulation (so you don’t get preggers). When a person is ovulating, they prefer more masculine features.

Anyway, that was my little PSA for the day. Hormonal birth control can alter the partners we select.

Period Tips By Phase

*note: not all periods or phases are equal. You might spend a longer or shorter number of days in each of the phases than other women, girls, trans and non binary people you know that menstruate.*

🩸Menstrual (Day 1 - 5)→ Recharging

✮ For some, this can be a draining time so this month take a nap. Resting is essential for your body to function and what better time to rest and pamper yourself than now.
