🎉Welcome to Issue 13!
Buckle up because we’re about to get into something serious…GBV or Gender Based Violence😖.
Every year on November 25th the international community takes some time out of their busy day to think about the elimination of violence against women. Yes, even though GBV, violence against women in particular, is incredibly widespread (and even INCREASED during the pandemic) we have collectively decided to dedicate 0.28% of our year to globally keep it in our thoughts. That’s why you see all those tweets once a year talking about how women should be treated better. It’s not like over 50% of the world are women.
Having a background in public health and specifically gender equity, I happen to talk to a lot of people about GBV, what it means and how it shows itself in different cultures, circumstances, and forms. Plus, being Iranian, I have an unwanted and intimate relationship with GBV and what looks like. The conversations about it are always heartbreaking and the lack of solutions always a huge disappointment. It seems like the only way forward is education and people asking each other more often, you okay boo?
So for today I want to do two things before I send you off to read the rest of our delicious newsletter.
Ask the women in your life “You Okay Boo?” then explain that you meant it in terms of their relationship with gender and violence and,
Some statistics on the state of GBV around the world, just to shock you a little and get your blood pumping:
35% of women worldwide have experienced either physical and/or sexual intimate partner violence or non-partner sexual violence in their life.
Globally, 7% of women have been sexually assaulted by someone other than a partner. Probably higher since these things go underreported.
Globally, as many as 38% of murders of women are committed by an intimate partner.
200 million women have experienced female genital mutilation/cutting.
Yes we know, this topic is sad but when it comes to women’s lives, what doesn’t start that way these days? We want to make a commitment to not forget these facts when we’re pushing for better and building the vagina heaven we all want.
Now go onto the rest of the newsletter you sexy thang.
Period Tips By Phase
*note: not all periods or phases are equal. You might spend a longer or shorter number of days in each of the phases than other women, girls, trans and non binary people you know that menstruate.*
🥚Ovulation (Day 14) → Uh, oh, Estrogen
✮ Your estrogen levels are decreasing so you’re going to be less hungry, but your body needs a lot of energy to ovulate. Get some good protein in and make sure you’re up on your Omega-3s.
