🎉Welcome to Issue #14
As I approach another year around the sun, I can’t help to think about Jennifer Aniston’s recent interview with Allure and her experience with IVF, and her attempts at getting pregnant. I am not one to feel bad about adding another year to the calendar, in fact, every year I have to do the math and ask friends, “How old are you? How many years am I turning this year?” Because age is just a number, and I am tired of people making womb holders feel bad for getting “older.” BUT this year feels a little different with Aniston’s confession.
In that interview, she explains how she wished someone told her about freezing her eggs. I’ve always admired her strength and how open she is about not having kids, here I thought. So to my surprise, it was a little sad to know that all along she wanted to be a mom. I am not even going to discuss how unfair the media is to womb holders and the stats on how being a parent negatively impacts womb holders compared to their counterparts.
But her statement, “I would’ve given anything if someone had said to me, ‘Freeze your eggs. Do yourself a favor.’ … The ship has sailed,” made me think about my “biological clock” and the implications if I change my mind when I’m 38.
So during this year, expect a couple of issues on this topic and all aspects of deciding if motherhood is something I will pursue.
“Is the biological clock a real thing? Do non-womb holders have a clock,?”
“Do I even want to be mom?”
“Should I spend 10K, experience all the pain and hormonal craziness, to freeze my eggs?”
Knowing that this may or may not work, looking at the different alternatives on cost and weighing doing it abroad, here in the U.S., or all along not doing it. Because to be honest I don’t think I want to give birth to my first child after 38, and 10k only grants me three more years to change my mind. I could also not make this decision without discussing and weighing all the inequities that come with being a mother. So expect a series on that!!
So tell us…is this something you have thought about recently?
Period Tips By Phase
*note: not all periods or phases are equal. You might spend a longer or shorter number of days in each of the phases than other women, girls, trans and non binary people you know that menstruate.*
💤Luteal (Day 15 - 28) → Slow down
✮ This is when you experience the most PMS symptoms, and to help you though time, we suggest foods high in magnesium and calcium. I always advocate for dark chocolate and leafy greens! A delicious kale salad and give yourself some chocolate for eating your greens LOL
