Tips to Sweeten the Dracula Teabag

🎉Welcome to Issue 3!

36 years ago, the Beastie Boys got it right with their instant smash hit, ‘Fight for Your Right.” Of course they wanted you to party with booze and smokes but we’re thinking of a different kind of party with your favorite neighborhood gynecologists, human rights, and safe medicines.

This week has been a roller coaster and as much as we would like to bring you some vaginal health positivity and magic, we also have to honor the sadness we all collectively feel for the lives of women about to be lost.

Abortion is a prickly issue, even though it should not be. It is so fundamental to so many things and today involves many different religious, ethical, and personal perspectives. Ultimately however, it involves life. Whose life is truly endangered, changed, and ended? Are we allowed to legally dictate and regulate what happens with another person’s body? and most importantly, who do these rules and laws influence the most? If your curiosity is flaring up with all the talk around Roe v. Wade and you want to expand your knowledge, make sure to check out the Center for Reproductive Rights. They have information on the legal status of abortion around the world and related trends.

If you’re feeling uneasy about this, tell us about it. If you have resources other people can use, tell us about it. How would not having access to abortion actually affect you? We’re angry too so let’s be angry together.

On a less somber point, scroll below to get some cycle tips, see cool art, and read something interesting.

Period Tips By Phase

*note: not all periods or phases are equal. You might spend a longer or shorter number of days in each of the phases than other women, girls, trans and non binary people you know that menstruate.*

🩸Menstrual (Day 1 - 5)→ Fight the summer heat & sugar cravings

✮ Eat some Watermelons, figs, and plums. The sugars will satisfy your cravings while the vitamins help with swelling and bloating. Plus Watermelon has a lot of water so you’ll stay hydrated.

⚡️ Follicular (Day 1 - 13) → Move that body

✮ Use your body ‘wake up’ and low metabolic rate to get into cardio and aerobic exercise. Take a dance class and move freely since your body will recover faster. Plus, you’ll be feeling sexier towards the end of this phase and dancing will prepare you for some fun.

🥚Ovulation (Day 14) → Uh, oh, Estrogen

✮ Estrogen is rising in your body and if there’s trouble breaking down estrogen in your digestive tract, you can get acne. So try to take supplements that help with metabolizing Estrogen.

💤Luteal (Day 15 - 28) → Slow down

✮ Your period is about to start and cortisol levels are higher so get some gentle yoga combined with bodily relaxation.

We support human rights, which includes legal, free, and easy access to all the services, medicines, and procedures women, girls, trans and non binary vagina havers need for their gynaecological health. In this crazy-ass week and HillaryWhiteRabbit’s art really spoke to us. In case you’re wondering, yes, we do think uteruses are like fearless, strong, and fierce tigers on the prowl. If you put your hand in its mouth, be careful about those sharp teeth 😎 Head over to their DeviantArt profile to look at some of their other digital works!

Spotlight: The National Women’s Law Center

Who are they: The National Women’s Law Center fights for gender justice—in the courts, in public policy, and in our society—working across the issues that are central to the lives of women and girls. We use the law in all its forms to change culture and drive solutions to the gender inequity that shapes our society and to break down the barriers that harm all of us—especially women of color, LGBTQ people, and low-income women and families.

A way to think differently about abortion: According to research, the typical abortion patient today already has children, is in her late 20s, has finished some college, and is low income. And we also know the main reason parents choose not to have more kids is because they cannot afford any more children or don’t feel they have the capacity to parent another child.

A tip: There are resources you can use to know how to help those being impacted. We will continue to fight for the right of all people to get the abortions they need, when they need them, in their own communities. Visit their webpage for more information.
